Theres a reason for extra sole/hoof material I consistently see - TopicsExpress

Theres a reason for extra sole/hoof material I consistently see that in hooves. The hoof side that gets more load generally has more sole material laid down on that side. This is a direct response to pressure, laying down more material to protect an area the experiences more load, just like us developing callouses on our hands or feet. The hoof is smart and dynamic and this what it does. Removing such material would counter act what the body is trying to do. If I ever touch it, it is to make it passive to the walls, but I have even seen a QH gelding stand on1/4 bars (on concrete) because the walls had broken out to sole level and it did not bother him one bit. He was also worked like this without showing lameness. How someone can blatantly ignore what the body is trying to say I will never understand.
