Theres a touching story behind two of the Silent Auction items at the Gala on Jan. 31. And you can be part of the story! Mary Vetscher -- dear person, parishioner, neighbor, and parent of alums -- donated two packages to the Silent Auction. Each includes 2 tickets to a show at the Orpheum Theater, gift certificate for dinner, and a bottle of wine. Yesterday Mary told me a story about the tickets, and she said I could share it with you. Mary and her late husband, Jack Vetscher, had been Orpheum ticket holders for decades. Theyd started with seats where ever they could get them, as long as her 66 husband could get an aisle seat. Over time, they were able to get better and better seats -- until, finally, they reached their goal for the best seats in the house: Middle aisle, 7th row. Thats right, center stage, great view, on the aisle. Unfortunately, after all those years of waiting and wandering, Jack died before he was able to enjoy a show from his seat. But thats not the end of the story, and this is where you come in. When the Orpheum held a fundraiser, Mary bought that seat for her dear husband. Now, whoever uses that seat will see a small golden tag on the seat. Jack Vetscher is saving you a great seat at the Orpheum. Bid high on the Orpheum baskets.
