Theres been a lot of chat about the referendum online and everyone has their views. Ive taken a massive interest in it, now i dont want to be just another person posting about it but in the same light, people who arent as interested in it, I dont want them to vote on something theyre not fully informed about and if I can do something to help better inform them then surely thats a good thing. So heres my plead: Anyone who agrees that Scotland should get more powers but maybe isnt quite set on independence should really have a good close look at what Better Together are actually proposing in terms of their more powers The 3 main political party leaders from Westminster have each presented different plans for more powers, for starters they cant even agree on what these powers are or would be between them. Theyve also announced these new powers without any consultation from Westminster or the 500 odd MPs that have been elected to represent it. In a No vote, every one of these MPs would need to vote to pass any new powers to Scotland. Following that vote, if its passed the bill would then get sent to the unelected House of Lords to scrutinise and would be up to them to vote to pass it as law. Scotland represents around 10% of Westminster seats, which is quite fair if you consider the size of Scotlands population, that leaves the other 90% of Westminster MPs required to vote yes to give powers away from the UK parliament to the Scottish one. Can anyone actually see this happening? Why would it? Resentment from England over the amount Scotland receives has been a talking point for years and to think that 90% would actually vote yes to giving away more powers, when Scotlands by then already relinquished its right to protest, by voting to keep Westminster in charge. Whether you want to vote yes or no, thats youre human right, lets just get this clear though: A vote for No is a vote for no guaranteed change, no guaranteed new better Scotland, no guarantees of any new powers whatsoever A vote for Yes is a vote for guaranteed change, guaranteed more powers, guaranteed control over Scotlands future, all in the hands of Scottish people, fighting for a better Scotland.
