Theres been a lot of talk about Steven Gerrards performance in the World Cup, which hasnt been good. The English media, it seems have got their scapegoat, when the man who has really botched it up is Roy Hodgson. His pathetic use of Gerrard in a two man mid-field has gone a long way deteriorating the Liverpool captains performance. Gerrard always plays in a three man midfield against top teams in EPL..with Henderson and Joe Allen giving him cover, the former playing a box-to-box role. Hodgson made Henderson sit in deep to cover Gerrard, thus failing to utilise the formers attacking potential. Gerrard, at times, didnt know what to do, and totally failed to control the game from a holding position as he did so wonderfully well for Liverpool. Also, in club colours he had Suarez-Sturridge-Sterling running into pockets of space which he could pick up with his passes, in England he has Danny Welbeck, and Rooney for company. The difference between Suarez and Rooney, at least on current form is huge. With the squad Hodgson had, it would have been best for him to go for a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, with Gerrard at the base of the diamond with Sturridge-Rooney as the front two strikers in the former and a Wilshere-Henderson-Gerrard midfield in the latter formation. I think, with Roy Hodgson set to continue as England manager, Stevie G. should quietly retire, before this man damages his reputation further.
