Theres been some discussion lately about who should stand or sit - TopicsExpress

Theres been some discussion lately about who should stand or sit at a concert. About 10+ years ago I saw B.B. King at Lupos in Providence. It was one of the first shows where Mr. King (being over 70, somewhat over weight and diabetic) decided he could no longer stand thru a whole concert so he decided to sit and play. You could tell it was one of the first performances where he sat because the stage hands were scrambling to get a chair, adjust the mics, etc., clearly they hadnt done this before and it was a last minute decision. BB said; the fellas in the Band say BB can sit if he want to, well BB want to. He was essentially apologizing to the crowd for being old, overweight, diabetic, and needing to sit. Most of the crowd stayed on their feet most of the night because they wanted to, and with him sitting so low you kinda had to if you wanted to see him play, no one complained. Yesterday Mr. King turned 89 and no longer apologizes for sitting, its just become part of the show. Heres a video from a few years back featuring John Mayer and BB King live, BBs sitting as is now the custom, as is John Mayer simply out of respect. RESPECT: You cant buy it, you cant demand it, you have to earn it. You have to EARN it! The first 60 seconds of this clip are about respect. youtu.be/f6dnI1WsFrA
