Abundance Swap a resounding success! Tampa Bay Times first Abundance Swap was held on Saturday November 1 at Moccasin Lake Parks Nature Center in Clearwater. We were fortunate to have the perfect storm of goodness that day: postcard autumn weather in the park, generous support from the city, and a team of about 15 stalwart volunteers. When I say stalwart, I mean eager, gracious, creative, fun, and filled with good will for whoever showed up. At least a dozen heartwarming stories happened throughout the afternoon as people came and went. Some brought armloads of stuff to swap and left empty handed. Some wandered in from the park unawares, and looked around at ten tables of Abundance. Dozens of times people said Really? All this is FREE?, and left with armloads of Abundance. It was a paradox of a community event. The material goods that were extra in our lives and households could have supplied a village of people in need: framed prints, a wok, many nice outifts, coffee table books, even a working bicycle. Some people came in with needs, and walked out with gratitude in their hearts and childrens clothing in their bags. Stay tuned for the next official TBT Abundance Swap- maybe St. Pete, maybe Tampa.
