Theres no excuse for not trying. One of the very hard things - TopicsExpress

Theres no excuse for not trying. One of the very hard things about writing about art is that theres so much of it, its so diverse and its all wonderful in its own fantastic way. Art is an exploration of things and in many ways an exploration of the self through the environment both inner and outer influencing and guiding along ones strokes and decisions until an act is complete and an object; a work is defined. There are so many approaches to this that one can often wonder how to create at all. Practice and flow. I sense this in the impressionistic abstract work of Charlie Gray. artradio.tv/charlie-gray/ The hard edged, angular, wood chipping mesh well with the metal washer and rope fragments of this mixed media piece and embed into a soft, sensual bed of yellow oils that blend like pastels. It is aesthetically pleasing and its interpretation and form changes to me every time I look at it making it difficult yet satisfying to admire. I have made no attempt to interpret it deeply as such but note that the items across three of her paintings; the washer, the chippings and the numbered beads are a common factor implying an obscure yet possibly meaningful construct. I would love to know the inspirations and ideas behind the creation of this piece, to know its story, its history and its intention. Abtruse would be too heavy a word, the arrangements feel so deliberate, so natural, so admirable. There is a fine balance to letting oneself go and allowing a sense of control to truly help one discover and achieve ones aims. In part recognising this balance involves recognising the limitations of yourself and others in the moment, calling on them for help when need be and being honest and transparent about yourself with the canvas of life. Thus we take the objects we have, think long and hard about where they need to go and place them appropriately. Consider this a complement as I feel this process masterfully executed in the work of Charlie Gray.
