Theres no place like home We are home, safe sound. Wes is doing very well-if you saw him today you wouldnt believe he had 2 cystic tumors removed from his brain less than 3 weeks ago.The incision is so faint it makes me smile. He rode his bike some, we walked in the sunshine at the Tech trails with the dog, hes even played a little bit of basketball. Home means we come back to the chaos of being gone (holy man!), the comfort of family, pets, and our own beds. In time we will get to see friends, extended family, and when ready-8th grade. Its been more than 5 months since Wes was last at school, we hope we can balance getting to a new and better normal. It is a bit intimidating but hes motivated. Hes already great, it is so wonderful to finally see him free. The place we called home for 3 weeks-Houston, TX, Ronald McDonald House, and Memorial Hermann Hospital, were all very hard to leave. RMH was a safe haven because there is unity in our collective experience of illness, condition, struggles, and victories. No judgement, regardless of the situation was a wonderful feeling. We laughed and cried with and for so many-they are our family and miss them terribly. We owe a huge debt to RMH, not only because the cost was minimal, but because the security was immense. Our day to day needs, trips to the appointments and outings were led by passionate, caring, huge hearted people. I never had to worry about getting hurt-like that magic floating bubble the good witch Glinda traveled in. Recovery and rehab is all aspects-physical, mental, and emotional. Every day we do a little something to build them all. Its not a straight line, but a good road. You have plenty of courage, I am sure, answered Oz. All you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty. Love you so much Wes.
