Theres no way to explain humor as theres no way to explain horror. Like anchovies, humor is a taste you cant explain. You cant tell a cartoon; if you could, cartoonists would be out of business. A cartoon isnt simply a joke. Its a talented art combining circumstance and a joke in a clearly recognizable way which cannot be duplicated. Reading cartoons you smile, and grin and laugh and at the end you feel better . Why ? Dont ask me . Dont say things like catharsis or reductio ad absurdum or surrealism . Cartooning is art, and turns the world as we know it inside out like a sock , or as a funhouse mirror. Cartoonists do what artists and humorists are supposed to do : to see what we could see if we had their eyes .We dont have them, but thanks God they are on loan.
