Theres nothing like two weeks in Greece to make a beginner realise how truly dreadful her Greek is, so its good to know that accomplished linguists also have their problems. I stopped off at the Duty Frees in Heraklion Airport yesterday to buy my Mum a bottle of perfume. The elegant sales assistant evidently wasnt impressed by my rather old-fashioned choice, so she decided to show me the error of my ways. We have new fragrance. Very good price. Its called Sick. I must have looked a bit surprised, so she elaborated a little. Channel Sick. Well, Ive been on one or two of those La Manche crossings and I wasnt sure I wished to smell like one. As usual objections are futile, however, and I find myself propelled across the room to sample Sick. I am liberally sprayed with the stuff, and it really doesnt smell too bad at all. Not a hint of P and O cattle class. I look at the display. Chanel ... Chic.
