Theres so much endless chatter in these days of instant communication and most of it is derived from instant thoughts and from instant rage and incessant misunderstanding because we are so quick to talk and so slow to think. The next tweet the next post the next wisecrack to top the last asinine remark leaves us little time for reflection and even less time for love. So sure that our view must be the correct one, because we validate our stance with our own limited knowledge and experiences. Our guiding force becomes a spirit of fear instead of love - and of a sound mind. Unlike the Samaritan who could have kept going down the road and ignored the cries of the wounded man laying in the ditch, we instead model the priest and the Levite who found excuses because of their race and in their reasoning and their religion to ignore the suffering. There was no thought in the Samaritans mind about race, religion or a different world view, his only driving force was love and compassion and meeting the need in front of him. His response wasnt based on the fact that the man laying on the side of the road, if conscious and cognizant, would hate him because he was a Samaritan. No, the only thought in the Samaritans mind was what he would want someone to do if he were laying bloodied and beat in a ditch. So he chose to love in the face of hate. The wittiest and wisest words without love are nothing more than an annoying loud noise. All of the knowledge and religion we can obtain is nothing without love. Even our attempts at empathy without love are useless. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. Love never fails. In a world so full of hate and torn apart by strife is it seems that the darkness drowns out the light, but that is simply not possible. In the darkest places when a single candle is lit the light overtakes the darkness. The light isnt our politics or our culture or our religious dogma, our light is love. This little light of mine, Im going to let it shine - let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
