There’s a government website, USASpending.gov, where taxpayers can supposedly see exactly where their money is going. Well, the GAO examined the site’s data for 2012 and found that at least $619 billion in spending by 302 federal programs is missing. Of the data that IS online, only 2 to 7 percent matches the agencies’ spending records. The biggest offender was Health and Human Services, which failed to report $544 billion in spending on programs like Medicare. And the #White #House failed to report any of its spending on any programs. Maybe the root problem is that our government is now so big that it thinks it doesn’t have to itemize $619 billion in spending because they consider that “petty cash.” Wrong Direction
