There’s an expression, “God brought you to it; HE will bring you through it”….I ABORE that expression almost as much as, “He will NEVER give you more than you can handle”. Both are usually offered in an act of comfort to another soul; and both are WRONG. People mistakenly believe that if God gets the blame and credit; all will work out; HOWEVER, I submit that the Bible offers no proof….of either assumption. The Promise is that God will never TEMP you; more than you can handle. He isn’t going to put a loaf of bread in front of a starving person; then tell them they can’t eat it, and there are lots of situations God doesn’t bring you to…..He just won’t desert you….in your hour of need. The issue with both well-intentioned expressions is that it doesn’t take Free Will into account. We are allowed, as law abiding citizens, to make our choices; it’s what happens AFTER the Free Will choice….that usually determines the character of our soul; so without any further adieu: God wasn’t present; when at the tender age of 18 I chose to “sin” and become pregnant (well I didn’t CHOOSE to become pregnant); HOWEVER, HE was there the day they put that angel into my arms…SEPTEMBER 4, 1989. It’s rough to be 18 and pregnant. I have MANY friends on Facebook who’ll give me an Amen for that; but once you move past the “Why me?” and into the “OMG I love her” phase you get to see the beauty…the majesty in His creation. Ten fingers; ten toes, head full of hair, brown eyes...perfect……And I shall name her Tiffanie Merrill; and she shall be my mini-me. The sheer magnitude of what I had begotten (begot?) is so completely overwhelming; I mean, THIS IS ME….a little life, totally dependent upon ME; and while I made some huge mistakes in choosing her father; I wouldn’t do anything different. Over the years, we’ve (Merrill and I) had so much fun with Tiffanie. She was intelligent, out going, popular, well adjusted, FUN. We had our moments….like the time she was five and asked me why people were afraid of Jesus coming back, or the time, she wanted to know if the answer to our 20 questions game was “The Great Indiana Nation”, teaching her that she can’t just say, “I never get jack” when told no, creating a character named, “Plank” out a piece of board, the vacations, dancing to Sister Christian, teaching her to play darts, foot ball games, fishing, car trips, movie nights….you name it; I enjoyed every minute of it…...so NO friends, God had nothing to do with me getting pregnant sometime around Thanksgiving in 1989….NOTHING; but He had everything to do with her beautiful soul…that little piece of heaven; sent down to earth; for the whole world to watch and enjoy. She’s beautiful, smart, funny, stubborn, head strong, opinionated…..SHE’S ME…..with a little less attitude. Enjoy your Birthday Budar, I hope you’re safe, happy, and content. Simply put ladies and gentlemen, I love her…she’s my world…..she’s my Princess….she’s my Baby…..please join me in wishing my 1st born a very Happy Birthday. In lieu of playing the HB song (I received a cease and desist notice), I’d like to play the tune that reminds me of her. I JAM it every time I hear it.
