There’s been a ten per cent drop in the number of school tours - TopicsExpress

There’s been a ten per cent drop in the number of school tours coming to Tralee since the economy began to slow down. That’s according to Chief Executive of Tralee Chamber Alliance Kieran Ruttledge, who says that while Tralee was once well ahead of other towns in Ireland in marketing itself as a school tours destination, there’s now more competition in the market. Kieran Ruttledge says that since the recession hit, organisers of primary school tours are reluctant to travel long distances, as this puts added transport costs on to the overall price of the trip. Schools are now more likely to arrange visits and days out in locations close to their home base. Helen O’Carroll of the Kerry County Museum says a lot of schools are now bringing children to places that have free admission, such as Kilmainham and the National Gallery. Despite this, however, she says advance bookings are very brisk at the museum for the coming months. A package is currently being put together, which will offer punters an all-inclusive entry to the museum, the Tralee Wetlands and the Blennerville Windmill.
