There’s nothing wrong with asking God for things. Jesus teaches - TopicsExpress

There’s nothing wrong with asking God for things. Jesus teaches us to do so in the Lord’s Prayer. If you need something, by all means turn to God for help. But a lot of people only turn to God when we need help with big things—the things we can’t handle by ourselves. When things are going just fine, we tend to ignore God, ’cause we think we can do just fine without Him—and when we’re in a serious jam, suddenly we “get religious” and try to bargain with God. We should never think of prayer as a last resort, but should instead make it our first one. Yet sometimes people will do everything they can do fix their situation, and when nothing has worked out, they say, “Well, all we can do now is … just pray.” All we can do now? We are calling on Almighty God, creator of the heavens and Earth. When people turn to God as our last resort, it’s not out of faith. It’s out of desperation. Prayer is not intended by God to be a last resort. It’s to be a way of life for all He has made in His image. From the very beginning God intended that we have ongoing communion with Him. Our ability to commune with Him was affected drastically when the first man decided to go his own way. But by His grace, God provided a mediator in Jesus Christ so we could have ongoing fellowship with Him Because of what God has done to provide access to Him, prayer is not to be our last resort, but our first one. All things are to be initiated and carried out with prayer. We are to “pray without ceasing”. So cry out to God. Call out to Him. Trust in Him. And remember this: Whatever your situation may be, God is still in the miracle business.
