These are 4 things you can do as a busy mom, to make a difference directly with your kids and in the big picture. Take heart. If its all you can do, it is enough for now. 1. Talk to your kids. Tell them its okay if they dont understand some of the stuff in school. Say theyre trying some new stuff out and most kids dont get parts of it, so dont worry about it. Just do what you know how to do and Ill be proud of you. Its okay if you dont get some of it right. 2. Talk to your kids, teachers. Tell them you support them and oppose CC because it keeps them from doing what they already know how to do better themselves. (Stroke their ego. They need it right now.) Encourage them to fit as much traditional math into the classroom as possible. Thats the best modification they can make. Without a foundation our kids are screwed. I have found talking to the principal and the superintendent and the school board to be futile. Theyre idiots or they pretend to be. If you have time, engage them. Its important they know how you feel. If youre super busy, skip this for now. 3. Opt out of testing & surveys. It keeps your kids from being subjected to hours of stressful testing and keeps some of their (and your) personal information out of this big database they are compiling. State by state guides are at unitedoptout 4. When people put the time and effort into researching and putting out a call to action, take two minutes to let your voice be heard with a call or email. They need to know there are a lot of us opposed. Thank you for fighting this with us.
