These are examples of Galen Wolfs mosaic series of paintings. Galen, known in art circles as The Dean of San Mateo County Coastal Art, developed this style and, I think, perfected it. My mom studied under, and was good friends with, Galen. Our family has always had a love of his unique style, and own a large number of his paintings. These mosaics are included in the book Legends of the Coastland, each illustrating one of Galens tales of life on the coast. These are really historic paintings, and I consider myself very fortunate to have recently acquired two of them and to be given priority, along with my brother-in-law, to attain more so that we can keep as many of them as possible together as a unit by keeping them in the family. Occasionally, there are shows of his works, and requests are made for specific paintings to be shown. Being able to offer these for display so that people can see them in person is a privilege. At present (along with three others I have had for years), I own the cover painting of the old Ocean Shore Railroad train streaming across the perilous cliffs of Devils Slide, and the one of the classic fishing boat canted against the winds and waves, poles out, named White Ballet for its dance with the seagulls accompanying it. You can literally envision the tumultuous sea rocking the boat and hear the gulls screeching, smell the salt air! I also have my sights on the Sir John Franklin, a beautiful rendition of the frigate that ran ashore near Pigeon Point and gave the name to Franklin Point. The seals on the rocks, barking out a warning to the doomed vessel, the big ship in full sail, the abalone lounging in their element, uncaring of the chaos about to unfurl... I think these paintings are just incredible.
