These are my favourite creatures but I wonder how long they will - TopicsExpress

These are my favourite creatures but I wonder how long they will survive in the wild with the deforestation of their and our natural environment? The palm oil multi-national industry is taking away the Earths resources by removing vital eco-systems that our planet depends on, the world Governments are frightened to oppose the lobbyists who befriend our leaders. A few people become financially rich yet they have nothing and the loss of our natural resources impacts on us all. Do we need palm oil - NO - Do we need to retain the forests and jungles that remain - YES - So, why do we accept the mindless short-termism employed by the Global food producers in switching ingredients from traditional vegetable oil to the unhealthy substitute of palm oil? Surely it isnt the financial incentives given to these companies, surely it isnt the bigger profit margins obtained through its use in our everyday food items? Surely the consumer is aware of what they are eating and putting into their bodies? No, I guess not; but every action has a consequence and so just take a look at how the big companies are involved - theguardian/sustainable-business/palm-oil-name-shame-wwf and in the US see - ucsusa.org/global_warming/solutions/stop-deforestation/palm-oil-scorecard.html#.VJK-aYV25ms Many of these companies are refusing to return to traditional vegetable oil usage because of cost and have indeed invested in buying large palm oil plantations, which they boast are producing sustainable palm oil, nevertheless as demand soars these multi-nationals support further deforestation and new palm oil plantations. There is no justification in this epidemic of greed and destruction, it is madness beyond belief but the consumer turns their eyes away from what is in front of them; as the larger animals are shot and killed within proposed areas of new sites in order to later prove that such animals do not live there, indigenous peoples too are being driven out by groups of thugs and corrupt officials. All of the wildlife and conservations bodies have voiced their outrage throughout the world but are unheard and the silent response from our powerful leaders is deafening. There is only one certainty about the palm oil phenomenon and it is seen in the images like the ones of the desolate orangutans or the orphaned sloths. We must all act but few will and this human tragedy will defeat us all. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_and_environmental_impact_of_palm_oil
