These are my memories of eid as a child; it was a time that you expected to get a new cloth. It was hectic time of prepping for prayers. Rice wasnt as abundant as today and therefore you expected the best of it. The whole compound would be swept, house helps would get new clothes too despite not being Muslim ( that encouraged many to become Muslim coz of the love shown) the bapakasi would anxiously wait for the pilau rice and gracefully thank upon gasps of burps owahajjati bateeka parawo aha. Praises of Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar would reverberate across the neighbourhood. Non Muslim neighbours would wait for the pilao rice and other goodies and so would their kids seek to be our best friends on the day. The day would culminate into a football match at the local stadium, then a movie later to wrap it all up. We would have a bit of pocket money that allowed us to purchase at impulse and at will then end the day, sometimes with indigestion resulting from the assorted mix. Eid Mubarak my friends.
