These are probably among my most treasured photos, taken in 4/75 when I was a tall 14 year old truck nut! This was my good friend from Des Moines, Mr. Bob Lees; my brother Paul and I are standing proudly with his 1951 Autocar and classic Great Dane reefer. I met Bob in Mineola, NY, and was amazed at the 24 year old relic he was still driving weekly to Long Island. When I inquired as to how old the Autocar was, Bob climbed down off the fender, looked me over and said, Older than you! We formed a friendship, with my parents opening our home and welcoming the 68 year old veteran of the road to eat and bunk with us occasionally. Bob retired shortly after these photos were taken. He returned to NY in 76 on vacation with his wife Alberta, and visited with us for an afternoon. Bob introduced me to long-time friend Bill Drew of MA; Bill connected me to my friend of 40 years, George Fiebe. I believe Bobs Autocar had a 220 Cummins. It had a 10 speed RR, and a tag axle. These photos were taken at a long-gone motel in Westbury, where Bob would park and lay-over.
