These are the Oscar people telling us which movies, cast and crew are the best: In 2012, the results of a study conducted by The Los Angeles Times was published which revealed the demographic breakdown of the voting membership. Of the 5,100+ active voters confirmed, 94% were Caucasian, 77% were male, and 54% were found to be over the age of 60. 33% of voting members are former nominees (14%) and winners (19%). White males over 60 that only 1/3 have even been nominated for anything. Even the government has more parity. Movies are art. That we give awards for the best... is completely subjective and reactionary. Lets be clear, none of these people are elected. Although I respect a lot of them (like Tom Hanks), it comes down to popularity and the flavor of the year. Shakespeare in Love beat out Elizabeth, Life is Beautiful, Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line for best picture...that was the last day I cared about the Oscars. On February 22nd, I will be going to see a play, movie, concert, stand-up or anything else to support the arts while Rosamund Pike and Felicity Jones watch Julianne Moore walk up the winners aisle...as expected. I bet Julianne is happy that Meryl Streep decided to do a musical this year. I poop on the Oscars.
