These are the shoes I got in Cannes when we premiered As I Lay Dying. They are a fer piece from Ft. Payne Alabama and Sand Mountain where I began. Of course I still like barefoot best of all! In about 1980 NC Governor Jim Hunt was visiting LA with his Cabinet as they put together a film commission and considered tax incentives for the state. I was working at George Schlatter Prods. and they stopped by the office, near Beverly Center, to visit. When the receptionist called me to the front I jumped up and ran out to greet him. He looked down at my feet - which were bare, laughed and said, You can take the girl out of the country but you cant take the country out of the girl! Thats right and proud of it!
