These are the tactics of many in this day and age. BEWARE of Deception, Malfeasance and Greed! Individuals who are dependent upon another in any form are more prone to deception in effort to evade disapproval from those distributing favor. Autocratic individuals have far less tendency to indulge in said behaviors. If a powerful enough incentive exists, truth is inflated and distorted in hopes of acquiring support and favor, financial or otherwise. This is present through out all aspects of life and living: including religion, commerce, relations, etc. Mearsheimer eludes to an America that must face the troubling realization that U.S. leaders will be unusually prone to engage in lying as well as milder forms of deception to gull their own populations. Not only is the United States a long-standing democracy, (triumphs dependent upon the support of the individuals) but it is the nation since World War II that is most inclined to embark on wars of choice—often involving issues that have little or no connection to genuine American security interests. The list of U.S. military interventions just in the post-Cold War era—Panama, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq (twice), and the extended mission in Afghanistan—is definitive testimony to that tendency...why is this?....greed, power, vanity.. The potential corrosive effect on America and world institutions and values are all too apparent. At a minimum, People must be on guard and doubly skeptical of spin machines and blatant deception. via Loving Hands Childrens Home
