Battle scars are just scars that are leftover after endless fights with his girlfriend. He knows that it isnt working out, he knows that he is fighting for something that isnt worth it... but he does it anyway. It remind me of how alot of people feel in relationship that they are stuck in because of the fear of the unknown.
