These chickens were rescued from the Jewish Kapporot ritual. I - TopicsExpress

These chickens were rescued from the Jewish Kapporot ritual. I went with other protesters to locations where they were slaughtering chickens for this ritual on two different nights. We were not successful in saving any the first night but at one location the next night we were able to save 65 chickens. We have 8 of them here at our house until they can go to a sanctuary. It broke my heart to see how absolutely scared they were when we go them into our sunroom. They had just witnessed about 200 of their own get slaughtered in an area at Ventura Blvd and Reseda Blvd. Families bring their children to this. It is truly sickening to think that children are being shown it is okay to slit another beings throat and throw it in the trash. The only thing that makes me feel good is that these 8 along with the other 57 are now okay and will live out their lives in peace. They came out and started to explore their temporary home today. If these are battery egg laying hens which I think they are, it is the first time they have been able to walk and to feel the sunlight. It is their first time to be around a human being that loves them and sees them as a being in its own right, not as some commodity or an ingredient in food. Many Jewish people are using coins instead of chickens but some are not. If you are Jewish, please speak against this barbaric ritual! Each year, thousands of chickens have suffered and ultimately died in the Pico-Robertson area alone, in the name of a controversial ritual that most rabbis avoid. The same people perform Kapparot with chickens each year in LA, between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. Ironically, in the ritual meant to expiate sin, live white chickens (allegedly hens AND roosters but sourced ONLY from hen farms) bake in the sun, without water, crammed into battery cages, awaiting their slaughter. While Jewish tradition teaches that they are to be donated to the poor as food, they have been thrown away in the trash imstead for the past two years, their lives extinguished without compassion. A terrible way to start the New Year!
