These could be exciting times folks. Coupled with the threat of the destruction of our Coastal Strip by the Greed and ignorance from certain Quarry cartels. It is actually nice to have a bit of good news. There will be a Public Presentation of the proposed Jurassica Project for Yeolands quarry on Monday July 14th in Girt Hall at the St Georges Centre 7pm. I believe this will be a boon to Portland Should it go ahead. With little environmental Impact. Other than an increase of cars. Here is your opportunity to see the plans and ask questions. If this project goes ahead, along with the MEMO tower (Also if it goes ahead) Portland will be the uncontested Hub of the Jurassic Coast... which indeed will highlight our Isle and which I believe will break us off from being just another neglected part of the Sandy Beach town. Portland can stand on its own! We dont need to be associated with the place oer on the mainland. The Jurassica project will bring much needed jobs to the Isle. it will bring money into the area and will benefit local businesses. I believe walkers of all ages will increase, and also coach loads of School children from around the country and even perhaps abroad will come. This is hope... A number of years ago, a Jurassic hub was earmarked to be set up as soon as UNESCO Allocated south Dorset as a world heritage site. And where was this hub going to be?... DORCHESTER. As you will no doubt understand (Those who know me) I was fuming with this, Why set up an Jurassic coast Hub in Dorchester when Dorchester is miles inland from the Coast... I will tell you why... Dorchester is making itself into the shangri-la of Dorset. They are spending oodles of taxpayers money on the county town whilst the villages and towns surrounding them are suffering. And I do include Sandy Beach Town in this. But it seems these enterprising visionaries has seen through all that. They know what is right for a location for a Jurassic Coast Centre... It is a no-brainer really... Put it in a Disused Quarry right at the heart of the Coast. I am sure many of you will have concerns about cars and access, and they are genuine concerns. But I feel that there would not be much of a difference fron when the AUWE was still active. Thousands of cars a day tooing and froing from the establishment twice daily! So... Please, I urge you to get behind this project. I do not begrudge anyone who does not agree with it at all. And of course, if you dont want it you must make your feelings known which you must do. Thanks for reading. I hope to attend also, and it will be great to meet some of you if you are going. Before I Post this... I just want to remind everyone that the Coastal Strip is in danger again due to outdated mineral rights that should no longer be in force and the snidey way the authorities are trying to push through the permissions to allow Stone Firms to destroy acres upon acres of wildlife habitat and ancient Lawnsheds. We cannot allow this to happen. Please keep your eyes and ears open, and support any move to stop this happening. I just want to reassure you, that I do not profess to be KING OF PORTLAND I guess my diatribes and comments about Portland may make you think that is what I am trying to be. I AM NOT! I am a Portlander who loves my Isle truly and wholeheartedly. I want to defend its traditions and heritage. I owe it to Portland. Portland has given me so much since the moment I was born to the present day. I feel it my duty to protect it! And Thankfully.... I know I am not alone in this... with brilliant people like you guys! Thanks again everyone. Andy Straw
