These days, music making has become much more of an intricate, deliberate, and collaborative process... and I love it! What really gets me buzzing these days is the thought of a finished project that is as much created by my friends, as it is by me. It feels good to use a lot of original field recording samples that I gathered myself, and it amazes me how many deep and meaningful memories I have attached to some of these sounds. Just finished a new piece that contains samples I took starting 5 years ago of bottles rolling around in my fridge, a raquet ball court, clicks from Dizzys broken down clock, the popping of a Sierra Kimchee bottle lid, rubbing and cutting of cardboard on the set of PoZilla, spitting in the sink of the only hotel in Gracac, a very squeaky door belonging to a local dive bar called The Mine Shaft, what sounds like white noise but is actually hundreds of simultaneous waterfalls from Plitvichka Lakes in Croatia, and my very first attempt at a sax solo. The whole track started from looping the end of an Allan Toussaint song in my head on the way home from Burningman, and was pretty much completed by the suggestion of a good friend to add a sample from Finding Nemo that slid right in perfectly without editing, and gave it so much focus. Today my brother will be adding his vocals onto it, just in time to play it for the first time to a lovely crowd of people at Foreverland tomorrow night. I apologize to any fans who have been asking for new music from Mr. Rogers, as I know its been a while, but a new album is almost complete under a new project thats held priority called PEGA5U5, which is a collaborative effort mainly between my blood brother, Pharroh and myself, but also many friends. Keep an eye out for that in the next month. Much love :)
