These guys have asked me to stand for them. Should I? I am very much in favour of Independent candidates, Independent Coalitions and local issue groups or Residents Associations standing candidates to bring voice to the people rather than power to a party. Background: We have a ratio of 2:1 Conservatives to non-Conservatives in North Somerset Council currently. The biggest second group is Independent Cllrs and when looking at the 2010 data it seems that Indies came in second to the Conservatives where they ran if they didnt win the seat. In May the number of seats available will be reduced from 61 to 50 so there is likely to be even more competition.
