These kids and their moments... So Im driving my kids back to their moms house in Dalton and after about 25 mins of driving they get bored with their technology and the car is quiet for a sec. Some commercial for college goes off the radio and I ask them what theyve decided they want to study in college Elle (14) goes first and says, quite firmly, Nano-Technology... Eli (11) waits and with all seriousness says Biological Engineering. Now normally Ill retort with some sort of smart ass remark about Nerdlife or a Sheldon comment but on this night I am moved to tears... IVE NEVER BEEN SO PROUD... I was never a gifted student, my C average came with a great deal of frustration and work to the point that I can outwork anybody on the planet but never really the smartest guy in the room. If I appear that way its cause Im working my ass off. Now my kids have the intelligence and the guts to dream on that kind of level and at 11 and 14 are old enough to, and have, researched these careers to know what it takes to achieve that position in life, and are UNDAUNTED and UNINTIMIDATED by the challenge. It reminds me of that scene in Forest Gump where Forest first meets Forest Jr and his first question is is he smart? (min 3:58 in this clip) Its a real fear and Tom Hanks nailed that look and emotion in that moment. Im thankful that my kids are indeed better than I. Its been a great day!
