These may not look like a Star Trek models related pictures but they are. Another one of my projects just received a vital part. Ive mentioned this some time ago but for those whove forgotten and those who are new Ill recap. I have three 1/677 Intrepid Class models to build in my stash. Two are the older Monogram issue kits and one is the new re-issued and more accurized Revell kit. I will be using one of the Monogram kits to make a diorama in tribute to the Army helicopter MEDEVAC crews who twice out of the three times I was wounded flew low and slow to get me out of hell and to a hospital where I could be treated. This idea came to me when I noticed that the PNT set of Voyager decals included many more names than the JTG set and that among the choices is the name USS Tranquility. Now obviously this has reference to the Apollo 11 Moon landing site, but the name also echoes the very real names of US hospital ships such as USS Hope and USS Solice. From that sprang the idea to build an Intrepid Class as a 24th century Starfleet emergency evac hospital ship. Both the Intrepid Class great speed and ability to make planetfall readily lend that class to that mission. So I got the landing legs for the Model from Federation Models and picked up another Aerowing and some more Speedboat shuttles to scale as I already had for the model I intend to build as Voyager, but instead of another Delta Flyer (which I consider unique to Voyager) I picked up a 1/677 Runabout instead. I have lots of the materials required to create dioramas (I currently have three in various stages of development) and now I had to order the PNT decals from them direct as FM has been out of stock of them for months. Never ordered from them direct before so Im really hoping that works out okay. The arrival of these decals from Werners Wings decals though are a major part of my concept and Im really happy to have them. Obviously they are intended for use with 1/35 Army helicopter models but theyll provide key elements for my build. The nose art piece in the first pic will go exactly there - on the nose of USS Tranquility and the larger Red Cross decals will go on her too. The smaller Red Crosses will go on the Aerowing and Runabout as those will serve as ambulances with the Runabout having landed with a load of wounded and the Aerowing shown flying off to pickup more. A couple of Speedboat shuttles will be overhead serving as combat air cover and picket scouts. Dont think Ive forgotten existing decals for Starfleet Medical. I have several of their disinctive winged caduceus decals in various sizes and two colors blue and black. They come from another great set of PNT decals I already have which are their Large and Small Symbols sheets. Believe me, those sheets are a must for Star Trek model building. Ive utilzed the same two sheets many times. So all that remains in need to start this diorama is the Voyager decal sheet from PNT. Their page is confusing but I saw the proper deduction from my bank account. Still, Ill be happy when they show up. Ive described something of my concept for this diorama. Heres the rest. If I can find small enough figures I plan to have Starfleet personnel carrying wounded on stretchers coming out of a woodline and going towards the landed USS Tranquility and the Runabout. Ill have some figures near the Runabout with a stretcher as if they were off loading wounded. As the premise of this scene is the result of action during the Dominion War I will try and create some JemHadar in pursuit and a Starfleet combat team protecting the medics and wounded. I may add more ideas but right now thats what I intend.
