These might be the best fall colors in years. Get out and enjoy as colors peak over the next week. A few windy days have taken a toll but here are some of the contributing factors as to why this falls colors are popping. A cool year - this is the coolest year to date in Indianapolis since 1979 and the average temperature ranks #4 all time. The past 3 years, heat and drought ravaged central Indiana. The stress caused by these weather events caused trees to brown and drop their leaves early. Fall storms have been at a minimum thus far, these storms churn up strong winds that strip the colorful trees early. Plenty of rainfall - the past 3 years included drought (2011, 2012) and a very dry spell that formed late last summer and early fall. Rainfall since September first is right on target at 5.19. So get out and enjoy - weve earned these colors! Im posting below a few images from my twitter account (BrianWilkes59wx).
