These people either or already lived or moved to knowing that they would live near a sporting venue that has had pop concerts/late night sport in the past, you are talking 6 nights a year (just 2 of those for Pop Concerts), yes 6 NIGHTS only, and all they try to do is knock back a town that is in a downward spiral, shopping, the council, transport, crime and so on, where for many our brightest hope is Sport, cricket, rugby and football. Saints dont seem to get any problems for their night games or their community events. So why is it 40 people take time to be so miserable, as there will be floodlights on, some noise, additional traffic etc. for 6 nights of the year, and they are not hooligans......... they will have nothing to moan about for the other 330 nights!! sometimes local people piss me off. "More than 40 people who live near Northamptonshire County Cricket Club’s ground in Abington have opposed plans to use the club’s floodlights for pop concerts. The club has applied to Northampton Borough Council for permission to use the lights for concerts as well as cricket matches. Documents submitted to the council by the club said: “To help with the commercial sustainability of the club, the venue would like to hold occasional outdoor concerts. “This would require the use of sustainable lighting to assist organisers, staff and visitors with security and health and safety.” In June 2011, Elton John performed at the cricket club, while Madness are due to perform there on September 22. At previous concerts, the club has used temporary lights. If it is given permission, they would be used the floodlight a maximum of twice a year for concerts. The club has also asked for permission to extend the time it is allowed to use the floodlights at late-night cricket matches, so television interviews can be carried out on the pitch after games. The change would see the lights left on until 10.30pm a maximum of six times a year. A total of 47 residents have objected to the plans because of concerns about light pollution, noise and parking problems. The council’s planning committee will make a final decision on the proposals next week.
