These photos are from Sept and Oct of last year. So hard to believe that a little less than a year ago this little guy was having anywhere between 10-60 seizures a day, could barely sit up, and was on 4+ seizure meds which left him pretty sedated and zoned half the time. Geeeezzz. What a difference a year makes. The brain is truly amazing. As you all know by now, Ronan is coming up fast on his hemi-versary the one year anniversary of his hemispherectomy -- the removal/disconnection of the entire LEFT HEMISPHERE OF HIS BRAIN!!! I used to find it sad/odd/funny that people would celebrate the hemi-versary like a birthday, but I get it. I REALLY get it. It wasnt until the seizures stopped that he was able to truly live -- and develop. So, next Thursday, well be celebrating the day his life got a whole lot better, the day he started to live, grow and develop. The day the seizures STOPPED. We will celebrate with some kind of purple gluten-free (purple b/c thats the epilepsy awareness color and gluten-free -- b/c gluten free is good for the brain!!) cupcakes. Not a day goes by that I dont regret with every ounce of my being that we had to make that decision, and not a day goes by that Im not grateful we had that option, and that it worked! No doubt, Ronan has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but his odds are so much better now than they were before. A year ago, though we were optimistic, we still didnt know if walking and talking would be possible -- now, I have no doubt - hes starting to do it now! And I cant even describe how grateful/relieved/amazed/humbled I am. Ronan is the true definition of resilience. He is as happy as can be now, has nearly 30 words, is happy and motivated to be on his feet and tonight was lifting rightie (his hemiplegic arm) over his head repeatedly for cheers and claps. Yesterday, he mimicked his older bro and hollered -- mama -- I need you! It was awesome!
