These pictures were taken several weeks after my uncle Big John passed away. My daughter and I walked with his Gi in our arms around the grounds at Coco Palms with Bob Jasper on his tour. Bob was gracious to let us go back after the tour and have some time to take these photos where my uncle worked. My grandmother Lorna was the pantry lady, her sister Moki Hanohano was the dining room manager who hired my uncle as a waiter. After being a waiter, he became a dishwasher, worked in the pantry room, cut vegetables and did inventory in the storage room. Grace Guslander was looking for an assistant manager so she trained my uncle on the job and sent him to Maui to work at the Maui Palms and to hotel school at Maui Community College. He lived a vibrant life during those years at Coco Palms. Going back today to visit the hotel and I know my uncle would be Sad for what happened. But there is still hope for a rebirth for Coco Palms.
