These r the little flower arrangements that Cari Richardson and I made to take and put on Pop and Mamow Daisy and Mamow Bunts graves for the annual Decoration at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Rugby Va. The orange and yellow arrangement was for Pop, tje pink one for Mamow Daisy bc she loved pink and the purple and pink for Mamow Bunt. This is a family tradition that I can remember going to my entire life. All of my moms family originated from the area and I would say that most if not all of the deceased members of her family are buried in this cemetery. Once again I can remember grumbling and growling each year as moma would start talkin bout it, but as the years go by and I turn another year older, I have become very understanding and accepting to this tradition, and really enjoy being a part of it and involving Clayton and Lilly in it. As this was the first Decoration I have ever been to my entire life that Mamow Daisy was not sittin beside of us at Pop and Mamow Bunts grave, waiting to see old friends and family, and talk about how much the kids of the particular time have grown and changed, graduated high school or college, got married or had children or just sit and listen to how everyones life in general has changed and become easier or tougher, and hear the latest updates on everyones health....:) gotta love it....it almost seems like the tradition itself had changed. I can remember listening to her talk to people she had known all of her life swap stories of adventures in their childhood and wonder how in the world can people remember things like that when they have walked their lives to this point and seen all they have seen and been thru all the good and all the bad that they have and still be able to remember these stories of growing up like they do. I believe the answer to this may possibly be the fact that they, plain and simple, just lived in a different world than the one we do today. Everyone stays so busy anymore and we never have enough time to get the things done that have to get done it seems, let alone find time to do things for enjoyment or fun. So with this I have found another reason to be thankful for my family and their traditions even tho I didnt quite get the real picture for so many years, I hope there will be enough time for me to maybe replace some of the memories I have of growing up fussing and arguing with my mother about going to this silly thing she made such a big to-do over, with some pleasant memories for her, myself, and my kids, as well as the rest of our family, of a tradition that began long before any of our time to honor and remember our family that got us where we are today. Even tho the tradition seems that it has changed a little without Mamow being there with us physically, we all kno shes still with us in our hearts as she touched each life differently. I dont really think she knew what a tremendous impact she had on so many different lives. Whether she was called wife, mommy, sister, cousin, aunt, mamow or friend she gave u her all and she loved u unconditionally, and she believed in u no matter what. We all loved her and we all miss her but she left us with some terrific memories, traditions and values. Another tradition our family has is that anytime u get together, u are going to eat......and eat we do!! The women in this family sure do kno how to cook; well most of the women....somehow I think I got a little cheated in the gene pool in that department. We all met on Grayson Highlands after Decoration for a lovely picnic with nothing but wonderful food! It was so nice to get to see everyone and spend time with each other. All of Mamows sisters are still living; only her and her brother Jake have passed. We were very blessed to have her sister Donna and her husband Ray Henderson, and their son Chris and their grandson Nicholas with us from Florida with us this year. Its always so nice to see them because I have such great memories of summers at their house when I was little and me and moma would go down and stay with Pop and Mamow for weeks at a time. We would go spend the day at Donna and Rays house alot and hang out in their pool or on the boat or fishing. Great memories! So a big thank to my aunt Vanessa Sage Hedrick and cousin Amy Henderson Atwood for getting everything together for us and to all of our family that were able to come. It was a lovely day.
