These were different Moray eels that I happened to see feeding in the early morning. When the eel opens his mouth it was not an aggressive display but their way to force water over their gills in order to breathe. I again took these videos with a telescopic pole that kept the eels very comfortable to continue to look for their food and not provoke them in any way. The crackling sounds that you hear is hidden snapping shrimp defining their territories. I have heard that in the early years of sonar it even interfered with submarines.
