These were the most discussed topics this year on our page: Number 6: Lost WWL Brothers and all BASE fatalities in 2014. It is horrible to re-cap the stats of BASE-jumping deaths from last year. It has been a hard year for our sport and the deaths of loved ones have shaken the entire community. Out of 16 wingsuit pilots who participated in 2013 China Grand Prix, four had died in wingsuit accidents by the end of May 2014. (Thats 25% of the total participants..) The biggest tragedy struck last spring when wingsuit community lost Ludo Woerth, Dan Vicary and Brian Drake during the same jump-gone-wrong proximity flight in Switzerland. Tragedy struck again later in May 2014, when we lost another loved and respected WWL pilot Jeff Nebelkopf. We will always love you all and miss you all. RIP. These four tragedies are not listed as BASE-jumping deaths because the pilots exited from Chopper/airplane - and not from a fixed object. We asked Brad Patfield to give me the exact stats of the BASE-jumping casualties in 2014 and heres some of the dark key stats he sent us. - From the beginning of B.A.S.E. jumping to now (December 30th 2014) we have lost a total of 248 people to base jumping. - From the beginning of wingsuit flying (in about 11 years), there has been 88 Wingsuit deaths. - Out of the 25 (3 females and 22 males) BASE-jumping deaths in 2014, 10 happened with tracking/normal slick clothes and 15 with Wingsuits. (There might be two more additions to death-list of 2014 as there are still two pilots missing and they will probably not be discovered until the spring) We cant tell people what they should or should not do, but we hope every aspiring BASE-jumper is realistic with what they are dealing with. The statistics speak for themselves as they reflect the seriousness of BASE; and anyone interested to become a wingsuit proximity pilot, should study the history.
