They are called Elephant Ears because not only do they look like - TopicsExpress

They are called Elephant Ears because not only do they look like and Elephants Ear, they are as BIG as the real thing too! We still have a few, by the way! We have had several inquiries about which end is up...found this great visual...check it out. And, I agree, if in doubt...lay it on its side. The Upright Elephant Ear Bulbs are not discussed here...but they are an elongated shape and more obvious. To have a successful season with these beauties, plant with tons of organic matter (cotton burr compost and pine bark soil conditioner). A fluffy bed of this would be LOVELY. Position them in a shadier location (hot afternoon sun can be damaging)...one that will also protect the leaves from wind damage. Feed monthly with a mild fertilizer that is higher in Phosphorous (P) than Nitrogen (N) or Potassium (K). Provide lots of water, stand back and watch them explode into the focal part of your garden. Hint: the more sun they have, the more water they will need.
