They are required to fund pensions for the next 70 years, for people who may work for the USPS that will not be born for another 10 years. The right has been insisting on this and planning on their demise so they can get control of billions of pension funds after they drive them to bankruptcy. The ultimate in planned, managed extortion and corruption. They want to privatize the USPS for the same reason Bain Capital would take over businesses, to gut them, fire people, deny pensions, pocket the money, leverage the cannibalized "profitable" carcass and then shut it down to avoid the loan payments placed against it. If all we have to mail things is FED EX, UPD, DHL, we will be paying so much more, look at their prices now, about 10 times the USPS price on small items and at least double on packages. This is one more way the plutocrats want to suck the life out of our economy.
