They have the responsibility to lead the people to overthrow this wicked regime. The separation of powers and its checks and balances, the rule of law, and the ultimate power of the people through their vote to select their representatives to govern in terms are the key concepts of democracy. Vietnam is not a democracy yet mainly because its lawyers and other intellectuals are not demanding it. They are so scared of the tyrants that they behave like sheep led by the undemocratic rulers, ignoring the voice of the people as well as their own voice of conscience. Surely, if lawyers and other intellectuals demonstrate to protest against tyranny in Vietnam, it will soon be free and democratic. The simple reason is that dictatorship can not survive without the cooperation of the intellectuals. Hopefully, they will soon realize that they have the responsibility and the power to lead the people to overthrow this wicked totalitarian regime, and to do so promptly. Democracy is the trend of the world. A democratic regime is the key to this present crisis of Vietnam, enabling the world of freedom and democracy to help the Vietnamese people efficiently stop Red Chinas expansionism and liberate themselves from totalitarianism. The silence of the lawyers in particular and the inaction of the intellectuals in general at this moment of urgency will eventually enable the annexation of Vietnam to China. As a Vietnamese American, I do not want to think of Vietnam as part of the wicked emerging empire to be smashed by the US and its allies. While theres still time, why not do something about it?
