They just cycle. Im talking about the Dutch. I was in Amsterdam to witness all of it and even rent a tandem bike and take my family on a ride in the park. Thats a first for me cycling in a winter jacket. Very refreshing and sweat like crazy after about 10min in the park. They have very BIG park okay. Who said cycling in the winter youll never sweat. But I do enjoy the ride tho. Heres some photo I took and also what I observe about the cycling culture here in Amsterdam and Berlin. Every one just ride their bicycle to every where. To work, market, coffeeshop (yes, its a joint to get high and they also serve coffee), dinner and of course to the park. Literally, anywhere or destination on their bicycle. I believe for a city like KL to become a cycling friendly city is when the importance of commuter ie Cyclist, Pedestrian, Motobikes, Tram, Bus and Car (in exact that hierarchy) then only can we dream of becoming a cycling nation. Another city we can closely emulate is Berlin. 2 bicycle lane, 2 car lane and 2 Tram lane. They are a car city that produce some major car brand like BMW, Merc, Audi but still the cycling culture there is very much alive. Enough said. Enjoy the photo montage:)
