They say that imitation is the best tribute, but sometimes it can be the biggest insult. For lack of anything better to do, I spent a major portion of Saturday evening watching Salman Khans God Tussi Great Ho on Zee Cinema, but couldnt sit through till the end. Anyone whos seen Jim Carreys Bruce Almighty would feel frustrated comparing and contrasting the two movies. Im not an avowed advocate of Hollywood, but am strongly convinced that its a case of us and them. Why do we make movies like them and end up embarrassing ourselves? Why do we plagiarise their plot and make a melodramatic mincemeat of it? We can certainly make our kind of movies much better. We can certainly improve the genetic quality of our indigenous breed of films rather than engage in this kind of cross-fertilisation.
