They say when you take a trip that half the fun is getting there. - TopicsExpress

They say when you take a trip that half the fun is getting there. I think the fun is getting home. When we left the cabin in the woods on Sunday, Mom said we needed to find something to do until 5:00PM. That was 7 hours later. The drive home would only take 3 hours, so we had time to kill. The contractor was working in our house that day & Mom told her she could work all day. We took little side trips and breaks on the way home. The first stop was a little out of the way place on a farm to market road, just to stretch our legs and for Libby and me to do our business. Mom looked around before we got out of the car to see if she spotted any loose dogs. After all, we were out in the country where dogs are allowed to run loose...most dogs....dogs besides Libby and me. Seeing none, Mom and Dad got out and leashed us up to walk. We had not moved ten feet from the car and lo and behold, there was a country dog right there next to us. He had a lot of stealth for a dog weighing almost 100 pounds and he had just appeared in a blink. He was a very beautiful, HUGE German Shepherd. He was very interested in us but not hostile. Mom told him, No...she always does that and it is so embarrassing. Then she told him to go home and he actually turned and slowly walked back down the road toward his house. He stopped every few feet, turned around and stood looking at us. All this time Libby had been barking like crazy. I dont know if it was Libby or Mom that made him leave, but I didnt want him to go. I whined because I liked him and I think that is why he was having a hard time deciding if he should go or stay. Mom and I started to walk again, comfortable that we werent in danger. We looked back and saw Dad & Libby scrambling back in the car. I walked around, did my business, then got back in the car. As we drove away, I watched the Shepherd. I believe we could be friends, if given a chance. I will remember that beautiful dog and I will think of him as Faught...we saw him next to a sign for Faught Volunteer Fire Department outside of Paris, Texas. If any of my friends drive on FM195, near Paris, look for this gorgeous dog and wave if you see him.
