They site San Francisco as one of the most expensive cities to live in, which it is, except for the fact that my husband could make MORE than twice what he makes there in a year with a rent of $2500 -$3200 a month. Lets look at the fact that we live in the Midwest, closest town being Evansville, IN where last time I looked the average wage was $45,000-$56,000 per year with average rental rates for a 3 bedroom, 2000 sq. ft. home being $1200-$1600 a month. I would say that our cost of living is high here in the tristate area b/c we live in an area with no REAL job market or chances to advance career or income wise. WE should have made the list. In San Francisco you can take public transportation but living here you have the average annual gas expense to drive an hour to work $3600 - $4800 a year plus wear and tear on your vehicle. I would pick San Fran over this area any day!
