They couldnt possibly squander the bounty from the biggest mining boom the state has ever seen, allowing the budget to slide deep into deficit with no relief in sight, while 85% of the profits disappeared offshore, could they? Of course not. There is simply no way these enlightened people would waste all the dosh on useless vanity projects while neglecting genuinely valuable spending on public transport, energy, education and health infrastructure, the benefits of which would be felt for generations to come. Consider the fact that talented folks from that side of the deepening ideological divide tend to make their careers in private enterprise, rather than in the realms of public service and you know, government. This just leaves the dross to seek some cosy corner in the halls of power, where they will suck dry any teat they can find, all the while murmuring some bullshit about how everyone else needs to stop mucking around.
