They were waiting for me at the start of the trail, sentries in - TopicsExpress

They were waiting for me at the start of the trail, sentries in training trying so hard not to fail. Look! Is that her, how can we be sure shes the one? She said as she cocked her little head. How should I know? Get closer to the trunk of the tree, all the better for us to see. Their dark ebony eyes were glistening as they both began squinting. And they turned their heads every which way. Moving quickly at first and then very slow...their tiny bodies in stark contrast to the snow. Remember what the Wizard said. Shes short. Whats short supposed to be? Do you know that word, can you explain it to me? She gave him a little frown, I think it means she stands low to the ground...sort of like us, quit pushing. She said as she pushed back. But he pushed at her one more time. Move over, I need to bring her better into my sight. I want to see if she takes the path to the left or the one to the right. The Wizard said her feathering was purple. Whats purple supposed to be? Her eyes began to blink. Its the color that sits at the bottom of the rainbow, that dark one I think. Then he fluffed himself against the cold. Clearing his throat, he tried his best to make his voice seem bold. Whooooo, whooooo, who are you and why do you come to pass our tree? I looked up to see these two little ones, as cute as cute could be. I gave my name and then in a polite tone she asked: Which fork will you take where splits the path? I smiled and replied: I take the path to right, would you like a lift, do either of you know how to fly? She fluffed up and replied: No, but we can jump. Stand be neath this branch if you will, well take to your shoulders and accompany you on the trail. I did as she bid me and sure enough, onto my shoulders they hopped. Quickly we became friends, and we entered the passage at the trails end. There the tunnel was lit by torches that burned in a soft light. Take the passage to the left, its a dead end on the right. He said, Lets see if the Wizard is up or if hes gone back to his bed. So we went to the Wizards private chamber, where he sat waiting by the hearth. Good morning, Child, I see youve met the owlets, what do you think of the new sentries? I smiled. Good morning Old One, blessings on you. I think theyre adorable, how about you? He shrugged his shoulders and then said: Cute they may be, but they came early insisting I rise from my bed. Eager they were for their instructions that would lead to their sentry induction. It seems theyve done what they were to do, for they have returned here with you. Come, let us go down to the Cobalt Cavern, there my Sister waits. These two belong to Echo, and with her theyre to stay and train. When they have completed that, depending on how theyve done, she will give them their names, selected oh so carefully shes so good at that, learning them will be fun. Echo was waiting with a smile, and it seems they knew her well. As soon as we drew close enough they hopped onto her lap without fail. She stroked their feathers and began to coo, Youve done so well, you two, and Im so very proud of you. They snuggled into the cup of her hands as she gave them each a kiss...which they didnt seem to mind one bit. Then she turned to us, Good morning my Brother, I promise you, the very finest of sentries will become of these two. And good morning Child, it is good to see you again, how do you like my little friends? I smiled, I find they have their charm, oh look how they both climb up your arms. I giggled as they struggled to her shoulder then I took a seat on a nearby boulder. The Wizard was busy creating sacred space mumbling under his breath. I noticed he was licking at his lips again and I just shook my head. Echo laughed. He is hopeless, thats for sure, and hell be eying the pouches when the others appear. They should be coming very soon, prayers and blessings will follow the lessons given to all of you. Today I will teach about how to commune with the forest creatures and the help of these two. Wonderful! I replied, That is a lesson to share with pride. The others will receive it well, and many have their own stories to tell. We began making small talk while we await all of you, and of course we played a bit with the two. The Wizard fussed and fussed some more, to prepare the circle in the center of the cavern floor. Licking his lips he kept looking at the passage door, you know what hes hoping for. See you when you get here!
