They will lie to you and claim that Islam came to keep the women in the kitchen with a chain to her foot tied to a cooking a pot! Really? Nusaybah Umm Imarah was a great fighter for the Cause. She was present at the Second Pledge of al-Aqabah and gave Rasool (saw) her allegiance (bayah). She was also present at the Battle of Uhud and actually participated in the battle physically. When the Muslims were being defeated she joined our Prophet (saw) with a sword, a bow and her quiver full of arrows. During this battle when Rasool (saw) was attacked Umm Imarah formed a part of the human barrier which protected our blessed Nabi Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdillāh, the Imām of the Muwahhidīn. She not only participated in battles but also treated the wounds of the injured and carded water to them. Sumayyah bint Khayyaat was another Sahaabiyaat (ra) who possessed strong faith in Allaah (swt) as she was the seventh of the seven to enter Islaam. The disbelieving Quraysh tortured her families. Their sheer resilience and sabr (patience) led the Prophet (saw) to promise them Paradise. Sumayyah, along with her husband Yaasir, was the first shaheed (martyr) of Islaam. These few examples clearly reveal the vibrancy of Islaam and the essential spiritual equality, which exists between men and women in Islaam. Muslim women were able to rise to the occasion and were the counterparts, the mirror images of their men, courageous, strong, thoughtful and ready to give all for the cause of al-Islaam.
