Theyre built, theyre efficient and theyre brave. Sound like a familiar refrain when it comes to Thoroughbreds? It is a familiar sentiment in a very unfamiliar place: The African bush. The Rhino Revolution project uses off-track Thoroughbreds donated from tracks in Zimbabwe for riding patrols that help protect South African rhinos from poaching. The Rhino Revolution is a community initiative launched in 2011 with the mission statement of saving the rhino species in South Africa and educating the world at large as to the useless use of rhino horn in medicine. The use of horses was introduced soon after by racehorse trainer Lisa Harris, who brought ex-racers in from Zimbabwe for rangers to ride on their patrols. Harris states: What weve discovered is theyre very, very bold in the bush and adapt well. It appears that OTTBS truly are capable of EVERYTHING! Watch the full segment from ABC news below.
