Theyve never ran for any elective positions in their lives. In fact theyve never even voted. In their university days SUG elections were holidays for them. They always ran home telling their parents, dem dey do election for school today. Dem- as if they belonged to another school! They tell those who listen to them that student elections are for cult boys. They are the non-cult boys. Today, they are on Facebook posting all manner of nonsense against those who dare to run and vote. They take sides and adamantly insist that black is the new grey even when all evidence point to the contrary. They make heroes of their benefactors and villains of those whose policies do not directly place kobos on their calloused palms. Some belong to another category however. These dont support or condemn only for mere pecuniary yield. They just love the focus of idle bloggers on their inane rants. Most are perched in cosy offices, some even in Europe or America contributing nothing to their immediate ambiance save what they get paid for, yet they luxuriate surrounded by heavy texts theorizing on how the man who dares to stand up runs the affairs he got voted for. They too have never ran for any elective post. Not in their churches, mosques, beer parlours, covens, brothels or cartels. Never have they been responsible for the welfare of any group of humans save those they sired or directly related to them blood or business. And even with the later they have issues, short changing them at every turn, cheating and stealing from them, yet they find the audacity to post theories on how to fight Boko haram, provide electricity and herd a bunch of intelligent cows loafing around as citizens. Truth is, they say talk is cheap but I think its not even sold. Its free. Else how can a fellow who has never even successfully reigned in on his/her family find it fit to not only suggest textbook theories of leadership but also complain and curse when those bold enough to stand up when it matters try but get it wrong? Earn your talking rights first. Participate. Vote. Mobilize. Stand for something. Not just ranting on Facebook and collating Likes and Comments likee you could translate them to electricity, good roads, hospitals or even borehole! Finally, take to heart these words from Theodore Roosevelt, “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”
