They’re not like students who come to community college directly - TopicsExpress

They’re not like students who come to community college directly from high school. Nor are they like the 65-year-olds that come to campus for personal enrichment courses. Students age 50 and over may have only paper high school transcripts and they want to get trained for a new career, quickly, so they can get back to work. Their needs are different, but your college doesn’t have to re-invent the wheel when it comes to students age 50 and over. You can learn from other colleges that have benchmarked best practices in supporting students over age 50 and access free resources and support at plus50.aacc.nche.edu. There’s even grant funding available to help your college expand workforce training programs for students age 50 and up in social services, education, and healthcare, as well as coaching from experienced colleges. Grant funding applications from member colleges are available at: aacc.nche.edu/plus50rfp
